MM: calm at the centre of the storm.

MINDFULNESS MEDITATION:

The quiet in the middle of the storm.

Opening to trust in difficult times.

VERONA, 11-12 November 2017

The Mindfulness is a ‘programme: an inner discipline to learn how to accept and undertake with awareness the challenges involved in taking care of ourselves and in helping others. Saki Santorelli

In this intensive session we will explore the foundations of the state of presence known as Mindfulness. It has attracted considerable scientific interest because of its positive effects on the management of stress, chronic pain and mental health conditions — including anxiety, depression, panic attacks and eating disorders — as well as on the immune system and chronic, degenerative, cardiovascular, oncological and skin conditions.

The session opens us to the possibility of experimenting with new ways of being and relating to one's inner experiences, with special attention to the emotional sphere, which will allow a renewed relationship with others and with the events of life.

The MINDFULNESS: WHAT'S #8217;E’?

It is a particular state of ‘awareness that arises through paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgementally’ (Kabat-Zinn, 1990).

This promotes the growth of a particular state of presence that allows us to establish a more intimate and profound relationship with our experiences, with particular attention to the painful and/or stressful ones that affect our lives. It allows us to develop clarity, intuition, understanding and to explore the interactions between body, mind and heart.

Mindfulness meditation helps us learn to care for ourselves and manage stress, the challenges of daily life and illness-related suffering. Stress and distress are fuelled by internal conditions, habitual reactions, and negative thoughts and emotions that reinforce one another in vicious cycles, eventually creating chronic ill health. Mindfulness can deepen awareness of the body, improve our ability to regulate emotions, and foster a more empathic and less judgemental relationship with ourselves and others. It can build self-confidence, reconnect us with the deeper resources of body, mind and heart, loosen the grip of persistent thoughts, and help us develop a new way of being with our experience.

Mindfulness meditation is a precious tool derived from centuries-old traditions and at the same time adapted to the needs of modern life.

BENEFIT OF MINDFULNESS MEDITATION:

Over the past 30 years there has been a growing interest in scientific research into the effects of Mindfulness practice. Positive results have been demonstrated in various areas, including: physical pain management, stress management, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, heart disorders, strengthening the immune system, attention and memory disorders.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE RETURN:

These are two days of practical and experiential nature dedicated to exploring the transformative power of mindfulness awareness in a protected environment, to understand how it can help us in everyday life, with particular attention to difficult moments.

The two days focus on deepening self-awareness — body, heart and mind — with particular attention to the emotional sphere. By developing specific skills, we can become aware of how we relate to life events and how this shapes our experience. This awareness gradually supports a new way of relating, allowing us to experience life with greater openness and freedom from conditioning. At the same time, Mindfulness opens up spaces of calm and helps us cultivate beneficial states such as peace, tranquillity, joy, gratitude, kindness and compassion.

We will use sitting and moving meditations, individual practices and related practices.

The programme is open both to those approaching meditation and awareness practice for the first time, and to experienced practitioners who wish to deepen their practice and understanding.

Meals are an integral part of the practice: everyone will bring food to share with the rest of the group.
